Therefore I thought of sharing my experience believing that, it will be helpful not only for beginners but also for experienced personalities who are learning or interested in IxDF courses.

Let me share my background a bit. I’m Pathum and I have been working as a UI/UX Engineer with more than 8 years of experience. I must say that UX designing is not only my job but also my passion apart from music. I have been able to work on many projects and gain a lot of experience that has added value to my career. Currently, I am working at Ascentic PVT (Ltd). I must take this as an opportunity to thank the Ascentic management for the support provided for completing IxDF courses.

My experience on IxDF courses

The Interaction Design Foundation is one of the highly recommended platforms available to learn about UI/UX Design. I believe the main reason for this is the high-quality course content they provide. In addition to this, as we know, IxDF course certificates are industry-recognized around the world. Sametime when you get distinctions for your courses they are shown in your public profile.

Interaction Design Foundation

I have been working as a UI/UX engineer for 8+ years now. However, I should say that following the IxDF was a different learning experience. Every course that is available dives deep into the core of the topic and gives you so many things to learn about.

IxDF Courses

The IxDF courses consist of great content and are conducted by experienced professional instructors who are engaged in the respective fields. It is very interesting when the instructors conduct the lesson by relating to their real-life experiences. The scenarios they mention are much likely to come across in our careers as well. Therefore it is good to learn points, with real-life, practical examples. In addition to this, the content of these courses is always refined, reviewed, and always maintained up to date by the instructors.

When talking about the courses, there are more than 30 courses available ranging from beginner level to advanced. Open-ended and multiple-choice questions are used to test the course knowledge of the students. The instructors grade the open-ended questions manually within two weeks, while multiple-choice questions are graded immediately.

If you can’t figure out from which course to start with, there are several career paths provided to help you out with your decision. You can select a career path that you are interested in, and start from beginner to advanced level. In addition to this, IxDF has a wide range of courses in the field such as Design Thinking, Mobile UX, Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, E-commerce, Brain & Technology, and AR/VR. The best advantage here is you can enroll in any of these courses by making one annual payment.

Within a period of a few months, I was able to complete 30 courses and the knowledge that I was able to gain through these courses is great. There were a variety of interesting topics in which you can improve your knowledge and skills.

All the courses that I completed assisted me in many projects that I completed. For example, when we learn about how Human-Computer interaction works and the psychological responses within the brain, we can use this knowledge to provide the best design solution that will impact the user experience.

Furthermore, courses such as Web Design for Usability and Gestalt Psychology and Web Design: The Ultimate Guide have taught me to apply UI/UX principles appropriately to increase the usability of a design solution which helps the user complete their tasks without confusion and distress.

A few courses that impacted me the most are Emotional Design — How to Make Products People Will Love, and Gamification — Creating Addictive User Experiences.

  • Creating a design solution that emotionally impacts the users would make them fall in love with the product.
  • When the user loves the product they use, they will use it for a long time.

These are two main important facts that I found very insightful through these courses that I can directly use with my career work.

Furthermore, accessibility is a very important aspect we look into. Therefore, doing the course Accessibility: How to Design for All assisted me to learn more about universal design and I was able to apply it to my work. This course helped to come up with a very useful article and an educational video which shows the importance of “Designing for Accessibility”

Course Progression and Navigation

The above image shows how the course content is arranged to provide easy navigation among course chapters, and also it shows my current progress along with relevant marks. It helped me to keep on track while being motivated to complete courses.

Tips on how to stay focused while you learn

One of the best things I came across when completing the courses in IxDF is the fact that you can go through the content at your own pace. As IxDF always says, “Designed for busy people” is what this is about. Being a busy personå myself, it is amazing how I can do all the courses in my own free time.

Now as you might be wondering how I managed to find time to do all these courses being a busy person myself. The first thing I did was organize my work and studies separately into a schedule that I can manage.

For example, after I finished my office hours, I took a few more hours to finish up the work that was due the next day. After taking a break I go through 2–3 lessons a day. This ofcourse would change according to my work. When I was piled up with work, somedays I could not stick to this plan. However I made sure to cover up my lessons on weekends and get on track again.

The course content is a mix of text and video-based lessons. I do understand that most of us get bored or distracted when we are reading the lessons which are all text. Let me share a simple tip that I used when it comes to lessons with text. I started using text-to-speech extension on my browser which read the content aloud for me and helped me to concentrate on the lessons more effectively.

The most important thing to remember is that nothing is impossible to do if we can manage our time and work accurately. Make a plan for yourself, have a realistic to-do list, and get yourself started. It is important to stick to your planned routine and eventually it becomes a habit. When studying becomes a habit no matter how much work you have you will find at least an hour to go through a particular part of a lesson. In the long run, you will eventually get used to it and the day you complete all the courses you will end up missing it.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I know you would also agree with me when I say that IxDF is one of the best places where you can get foundational or in-depth knowledge about UI/UX. This is an organization that is committed to creating high-quality educational material to produce the world’s top designers. The greatest advantage you can get from IxDF is knowledge. You can indeed find many resources out there to get knowledge but in IxDF you can get a deeper look at the field of UI/UX and learn everything from a beginner level to advanced.
